Founded in 2008, the ASVOFF festival is the crystallisation of a change brought about by the new possibilities offered by the new media. Fashion professionals are turning in droves to the film medium to display their world. A jury composed this year of the director Mike Figgis, the composer Michael Nyman and Bryan Adams, are chairing a competition of short films. “A Shaded View on Fashion Film” is the expression of fashion through film using short films, documentaries, and other formats, including the “Light Series”, works lasting less than a minute selected in collaboration with Italian Vogue. This event is the brainchild of Diane Pernet, stylist, photographer, journalist, blogger and avant-gardist.

Coco Before Chanel is the story of Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, who began her life as headstrong orphan, and through an extraordinary journey became the legendary couturier who embodied the modern woman and became a timeless symbol of success, freedom and style. The film portrays the formative years of Chanel’s life, the years of Chanel spent discovering and inventing herself.

Valentino: The Last Emperor is a feature-length film on the legendary designer Valentino Garavani in the wake of his exit in 2008 from the company he founded in Rome more than 45 years ago. Produced and directed by Matt Tyrnauer, Special Correspondent for Vanity Fair magazine, the film is an intimate, engaging and very funny fly-on-the-wall exploration of the singular world of one of Italy’s richest and most famous men. The film documents the colorful and dramatic closing act of Valentino‚Äôs celebrated career, tells the story of his extraordinary life and work, and also explores the larger themes affecting the fashion business today. But at the heart of the film is the unique relationship between Valentino and his business partner and companion of 50 years, Giancarlo Giammetti.
